This is a tribute to my dad.

I call it my ungratefully/ grateful song. It’s a reflection of working alongside dad in my younger years as a naive kid, a know-it-all teen, and finally growing up to be a sincerely grateful son for all he sacrificed.

It mixes Blue grass, reggae, Americana...it’s a bit of a gumbo!

Enjoy!

Lyrics

Watching the River Go By

Well the river runs down through the hills
Down to the ocean is where it spills / into the sea
Sure wish / it would take me

Yeah I watch it pass by everyday
Headed towards the beach where the lucky kids play
while I work with dad, I’d rather be down in the sand

(Chorus)
But ain’t that the way life sometimes seems
Always / Somebody out there / got a little bit more than me
i just want a little piece of that pie
up here watchin', watching that river go by

Tough for a kid to swallow that big ole pill
Watching that old river run through these hills
On to the sea
Sure wish / it would take me

while the lucky kids got to splash and play
Dad was teaching me lessons I would use some day
I never understood
But he knew someday I would

(Chorus)
But ain’t that the way life’s supposed to be
Luckily Somebody right here / just a little bit smarter than me
working for his piece of that pie
Is watching me watching / watching that river go by

(Bridge)
But all us kids have our crazy dreams
Trapped in lakes and little streams
But with some help and a lotta love
That big old River might scoop us up.

Well the river runs down through the hills
Down to the ocean is where it spills / into the sea
Still wish / it would take me

Yeah I watch it pass by everyday
Headed towards the beach where the lucky kids play
while I work with dad, I wouldn’t trade none of this back

(Chorus)
Cause ain’t that the way life's supposed to be
luckily somebody right here a whole lot wiser than me
who struggled for his piece of that pie
hopes I jump off the banks of that river and learn (to fly)

(Bridge 2)
But all us kids have our crazy dreams
Trapped in lakes and little streams
But with some help and a fathers love
(Love, love, love, love)
I know that Rivers gonna scoop me up.
